The conversion of St. Boniface Church to a residential development continues at 1356 W Chestnut Street in Noble Square, West Town. ZSD Corp is the developer and general contractor responsible for resurrecting the church and transforming it into new homes as part of a two-phase redevelopment. The church is Phase 1. Phase 2, located immediately east of the church is also underway, under the moniker The Residences at St. Boniface.

A demolition permit was issued, then put on hold, on July 21, 2016 for the circa 1900s St. Boniface Church. Designed by Henry Schlacks, it escaped the wrecking ball and has now been re-imagined by SPACE Architects + Planners. They’ve created 18 condominium units and added 37 parking spaces between the church building and a second structure at 921 N Noble Street. A sign on site notes three “cathedral units” are still available for sale.

Residents of the redesigned St. Boniface will live a casual stroll through Eckhart Park from the CTA’s Route 66 bus. The 9 and 9 Express buses are within a four-block walk southwest. The Chicago Avenue Blue Line station is about half a mile southeast.
